The Associated Press seeks a Newsperson for its Global Media Services (GMS) based in its New York City location.

The newsperson works closely with clients to produce, shoot and edit news stories using Final Cut Pro and Adobe Premier.  During planned and unplanned events, the newsperson must have the ability to setup, shoot, troubleshoot and manage live camera positions, establish IFB and coordinate feeds, as well as shoot studio interviews for clients.  This individual must be able to operate studio equipment including camera, switcher, audio board; ability to light a studio, inside and outdoor live position, for client stand up or client interviews.  Must have experience operating a LiveU unit (or comparable delivery system) to stream a live shot or file video from a remote location as well as ftp video.  This person must oversee GMS NY inventory and field equipment, report equipment failures or maintenance requirements to line manager and facilitate equipment repairs and purchases as warranted.  They will assist in the training of other technical staff on the proper use of in-house equipment. 

The newsperson works closely with GMS in New York, Washington DC, Mexico, Rio de Janeiro and London.   

Qualifications:

The selected candidate has technical experience in this field with the ability to shoot and edit broadcast quality video remotely.  The newsroom environment and field events are multi-faceted, which require the ability to juggle multiple tasks at once including setting up the technical operations for live shot and edits; all with an emphasis on meeting and exceeding client needs. He/She must have a thorough knowledge and understanding of all aspects of newsgathering and broadcasting.  The ideal candidate will have a broad understanding of the changing needs of television newsrooms and a strong desire to shape the service to meet those needs.  Candidates must have excellent interpersonal skills; work collaboratively with other AP departments and freelancers.  Job requires scheduling flexibility, work various shifts as news dictates, including weekends/holidays. Experience in serving international broadcast clients in the field is a plus, especially covering natural disasters and hostile environments. Previous TV station, news agency or production facility experience required.  The successful candidate will have knowledge of IP and GSM delivery systems for streaming video, transmitting live shots and file transfer, as well as satellite and fiber optics knowledge. Tape to tape capability is a plus.   As well as fluency in a foreign language(s) is a plus.   The ideal candidate should have a bachelor’s degree or equivalent-level experience.

The candidate must be able to work under tight deadlines in breaking news situations, able and willing to travel on short notice in the US and internationally and, if needed, work long hours, holidays and weekends. The position requires the ability to stand for extended periods of time before, during and after news events. This person must be able to carry heavy video equipment; approximately 50 pounds on a frequent and consistent basis.

Advanced-level professional competency in written and spoken English language is required. Authorization to work in the United States for any employer is mandatory.
